Manor Nantes (44)

A remarkably restored Belle Époque villa and its guest houses on the banks of the Loire, halfway between Nantes and Ancenis. The first gate opens from the street onto a hedge-lined driveway, which leads to a second gate framed by two dry-stone pillars. The grounds unfold from here, featuring on one side a vast, deep garage, a shelter and a workshop, as well as two guest houses created in the former stables. At the back, the sober rear facade of the villa completes the view of the upper part of the grounds. The sloping parkland surrounds the residence on both sides. It features a swimming pool with pool house and a large terrace in front of the elevation facing the Loire, before descending down to the perimeter wall. Below the terrace, two rows of centuries-old trees frame an elegant expanse of lawn. Finally, a gate in the perimeter wall provides access to the street leading to the station. This country residence was built for an industrialist from Nantes in 1899. It comprises a rectangular main building preceded by two semi-octagonal turrets linked by a central bay at the front, on the Loire side, which seem to form a projecting decorative structure. The two-storey villa is almost entirely built of tuffeau limestone on a granite base. The rear section has a four-pitched slate roof. Each of the turrets has a pavilion roof and the central bay, which features a protective Virgin Mary statue in a recess on the facade, is topped by a triangular pediment towering the rear roof. On either side of the central section, two single-storey wings replicate the semi-octagonal shape of the turrets, adding stability and balance to the overall appearance. The decorative window surrounds are of tuffeau limestone. The stone balustrades on the piano nobile were filled in during a previous restoration. The two octagonal roofs of the turrets are supported by a corbelling with large moulded dentils. The two adjoining guest houses, which come into view just after passing through the entrance gate, have been converted into independent gîtes. They are of rendered schist masonry with brickwork and topped by slate gable roofs. Each house has its own little garden, bordered by a vertically slatted chestnut fence.

Manor Arras (62)

An 18th-century hunting lodge with outhouses and a 4,000m² garden in the Artois area of northern France, an hour from Lille and Le Touquet. A wrought-iron gate leads into the property. It is flanked with two cylindrical stone pillars that are roughly 2.8 metres high and have octagonal capitals. They come from a former 15th-century chapel dedicated to Saint- Peter that once stood nearby. Vegetation encircles the property, giving it absolute privacy: you cannot see it from the road. A garden extends around a hunting lodge that an aristocrat built at the end of the 18th century not far from a chateau that existed in Liencourt. No remains of this chateau can be seen today. Different families, including lawyers and doctors, have lived in this old hunting lodge over the years since then. All of them have endeavoured to preserve the dwelling’s authenticity, which stands out for its classical architecture. Tall, straight windows neatly punctuate its long facade and slate roofs crown its various sections. The outhouses stand to the right of the main building, beside a swimming pool that lies in the garden. In front of the house’s south-facing facade there is a central lawn and a path lined with topiary yews. Behind the house, age-old trees tower. They include cedars, oaks, beeches and linden trees. There are also many fruit trees here. The trees dot the lawn up to the swimming pool terrace.

Manor Saint-Brieuc (22)

A renovated 15th-century Breton manor with vast grounds and a medieval garden, nestled between Lamballe and Dinan in northern Brittany. The property is tucked away in a hamlet not far from its local town. Country lanes that snake through woods and meadows lead up to the property. The manor comes into view beyond a bend in the road. The edifice towers above its natural surroundings. The estate covers around two hectares. A shrub-lined drive leads into it. This drive takes you to a court. The manor and two outhouses stand around this court: one outhouse is a former dwelling and the other is a former barn. The manor was mentioned as early as in the 15th century. It was redesigned in the 17th century. Over a period of several years, the edifice was renovated by its occupants, who were driven by their passion for built heritage and history and by a concern for authenticity, quality and sustainability. They aimed to turn the edifice into a comfortable, inviting family home. The loft is insulated with cellulose fibre. The rest of the interior is insulated with hemp and earth for thermal regulation.

Manor Nantes (44)

A 19th-century hilltop manor house, with 6 hectares of woodlands and meadows, 25 km from Nantes. Just a few hundred metres from the village, an unpaved track winds its way up through fields and hedgerows to reach this prominent property, immersed in the heart of unspoilt nature. Overlooking the Loire Valley, the estate extends over around 6 hectares of woodland and meadows. There are two separate blocks of outbuildings: a dovecote, a henhouse, a rabbit hutch and former latrines. A driveway surrounds the manor house, which has a total floor area of roughly 250 m² and features a variety of architectural styles. The driveway also leads to the former gardener's house, built in the 'Clissonnais' style, which has been converted into an independent dwelling with a generous floor area of almost 120 m². Beautifully constructed, the complex now requires renovation work to bring it up to standard and modernise the interiors.

Manor Tours (37)

A 15th-16th century manor house and hamlet set in more than 2 hectares of land to the west of Tours. A manor house and hamlet with two houses and numerous outbuildings set in an estate with over two hectares of land. From the road leading up to the village, a carriage path leads around the hamlet and the manor house's surrounding wall. A gate opens onto a driveway lined with poplars, with meadows on one side and an orchard on the other. This leads to a second gateway, which provides access to a vast grassed area enclosed by walls. The manor house, built in the 15th and 16th centuries, faces east. An imposing barn, that leads on from it, faces an outbuilding. To the side, small communal areas border the space. On the opposite side, a farmhouse that faces south and its outbuildings complete the ensemble. To the rear of the manor house there is a south-facing house. The central courtyard opposite it leads to a barn which has been converted into a reception room, bordered by a meadow and several other outbuildings belonging to the old farm. At the far end of the estate, a fortification in a polygon shape is a reminder of how important the fiefdom once was.

Ref. 4315: For sale, XVIII th. C. Manor house with parkin Suisse Normande Immersed in the heart of a village with medieval origins, this manor house is a pure example of the rich heritage of which the renowned 'Suisse Normande' can boast, criss-crossing the departments of Orne and Calvados along its river. Proudly set in the heart of a small town of some 765 souls, the property benefits from a rural outlook offered by a beautifully wooded park, complicit in serenity and tranquility. The region is particularly rich in tourist, cultural and sporting activities (miniature train and printing museums, Pontécoulant castle, Souleuvre viaduct, canoeing, aquatic facilities, golf, cinema, camping, Pont-d'Ouilly leisure center, climbing, fishing, hiking, etc.), not to mention the breathtaking panorama offered by the Orne valley. So many assets that you can't help but think of as the perfect second home, or atypical holiday destination. The nearby town of Condé en Normandie, just 3 leagues away, offers all the services and shops you need for everyday life. La Suisse Normande' is a privileged corner of paradise...a secret you'll want to discover...and keep! The whole is well-balanced and symmetrical for its time. The manor house has a slate roof with 3 crenellated brick chimneys. The main entrance originally featured an elegant canopy topped by a terrace. This was probably replaced by the war. Built over 4 levels, the main dwelling provides around 310 sqm of living space, distributed as follows: -Garden level: kitchen and utility room (19.5 + 2.8 sqm) Unused space (23 sqm) with access to boiler room and storeroom (2.9 and 3.8 sqm) Dining room (23.9 sqm) with fireplace Clearing (3 sqm) and access to laundry room (4.6 sqm) -Ground floor: Main entrance with staircase (4.7 sqm) Parqueted living room with marble fireplace, adjoining a boudoir (21.7 sqm + 2.8 sqm) Back staircase with storage space (5 sqm) Parqueted living room with fireplace (17.05 sqm) Rear hallway (3.75 sqm); WC (2.8 sqm) Bedroom 1 (16.5 sqm) Raised access to bedrooms (5.4 sqm) Bedroom 2 (12 sqm) Shower room (3.8 sqm) Bedroom 3 (8.02 sqm) -1st floor: Landing (4.3 sqm) Bedroom 4 (22.8 sqm) + tower area (2.8 sqm) Bathroom (5.2 sqm) Hallway (6.4 sqm) and WC access (2.8 sqm) Bedroom 5 (14.6 sqm) Raised access to bedroom 6 (23.4 sqm) -2nd floor: Attic space throughout. The annex: a dwelling has been converted in the eastern part of the manor into an L-shaped extension. With around 45 sqm of living space, it comprises an entrance hall, kitchen/dining area, living room, 2 bedrooms (one of which is less than 9 m2), and a shower room. The property is in good condition, perfectly habitable and/or suitable for rental. The park is the essential and essential element of this property, optimizing its rural character while at the same time showing that it belongs in the heart of the commune. The city in the country....the country in the city! Logically south-facing, the grassed part of the park benefits from maximum sunlight, naturally regulated by a belt of protected century-old trees to ensure coolness in the evening. Oaks and chestnuts compete in beauty, while a few apple trees complete the decor. A driveway criss-crosses the park, giving double access to the gates on the east and west sides of the property. A discreet vegetable garden awaits the 'green thumb' who will know how to restore it to its former glory... The whole constitutes a land area of around 8,700 sqm, part of which is constructible. Manor Baugé-en-Anjou (49)

Ref.4093: Elegant angevin manor house from the 15th C. for sale. This remarkable manor house, whose origins date back to the 15th century, when a family of royal nobility occupied the premises, is firmly established in the heart of the Baugeois region, which is rich in cultural and architectural heritage and offers a variety of leisure activities in a particularly well-preserved natural setting. Crossed by the Loire River and renowned for its numerous castles, Romanesque churches, manor houses and half-timbered houses, the Baugeois is home to the famous tourist sites of the Château de Brézé, the Château de Montsoreau, the Abbey of Fontevraud, the Château de Baugé, the Priory of Sainte-Gemmes-sur-Loire and the historic town of Saumur. Benefiting from a peaceful environment, the property is not far from the town of Angers and the main shops/resource towns are 10 minutes away by car. Easily accessible from Paris and the main cities of the west, Nantes, Le Mans and Tours, this seigneurial building will undoubtedly inspire lovers of old architecture and is ideal for a main residence, holiday home, gîtes or other professional activities. Built on three levels in tufa and local stone rendered with lime under slate, this admirable seigneurial dwelling is adorned with a wing in its extension and another in return for a square, and has remarkable transoms with tufa mullions piercing its main building with several openings from which a diaphanous light spreads pleasantly around the interior. Flanked on the north side by a massive square tower, the specificity of which is to change from a polygonal to a square plan by 'a corbelling with eight quarter round moulded projections', an impression of placid power emanates from this group of buildings, which has been freshly renovated with a degree of care rarely seen. The tower gives access to the interior via a pretty doorway topped by a lintel in the form of an embrasure, and contains a singular wooden spiral stairway. Adjacent to the large dwelling, a vast terrace topped by a slate canopy completes the balance of this building. The main entrance from the main courtyard gives access to the ground floor which is arranged as follows: A vast and elegant living room extends on either side to two monumental tufa fireplaces facing each other. This gives access, on the right, to a comfortably equipped kitchen and a back kitchen. Opposite, a door gives access to the spiral staircase of the tower. To the left, a hallway leads to an en suite bedroom, a bathroom and the staircase leading to the first floor. Throughout, one finds admirably worked and inspired by the aesthetic conventions of the time, terracotta floors from the nearby rairies, half-timbering and exposed beams, stained glass windows and finely worked wooden shutters... On the first floor, a landing leads to a bedroom, a shower room and a bathroom on the right, and to the left, three bedrooms, one of which is of good size and features a magnificent monumental tufa fireplace, a bathroom and a shower room. As on the ground floor, there are terracotta floors, exposed beams, stained glass windows, interior shutters, and remarkable tufa 'coussièges', a sort of stone bench integrated into the embrasure of certain windows which were used in the Middle Ages as benches for sitting and later as resting places for reading or writing. On the second floor and in the attic, additional volumes offer interesting potential for conversion as required. The living space is approx. 350 sqm. The property has two outbuildings: A large games room (approx. 50 sqm) is located in the extension of the living area, which is set back at right angles and can be accessed from the courtyard on the same level. On the first floor, an attic accessible via an attractive external slate staircase offers additional possibilities for conversion. A little further away, an old stable has been perfectly renovated and is used as a garage and a shed. The manor house is set in beautiful English-style parklands of 4,21 acres planted with beautiful trees in the making (oak, chestnut, acacia, cedar, fruit, apple, pear, cherry, plum, quince, raspberry, redcurrant trees, etc.), and punctuated by a beautiful pond with fish. The view is unobstructed over the surrounding valleys and there is a great deal of peace and quiet in this place, which naturally gives meaning to Joachim du Bellay's famous sonnet evoking the 'softness of Angers'.
